The sun was hot and the music hotter on the first day of the 2012 Newport Jazz Festival, as those of you who watched our our live video stream or listened to our live broadcast on WBGO-FM from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday already know. Pedrito Martinez, John Ellis, James Carter and dozens of others brought their best to the stage. If you missed them, you can hear many of these sets on the Newport Jazz page over at NPRMusic.org.

We will be broadcasting again from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, but in the meantime, here are a few peeks at yesterday's shows. Enjoy!

WBGO is back in Newport, with host Josh Jackson broadcasting live from the 2012 Jazz Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. This year's festival is packed to the gills with fresh-faced and veteran talent, so will be exciting.

Our new sister HD2 station, The Jazz Bee, is also playing a special selection of recordings by the more than forty artists and groups who are performing at Newport this year.
