• David Amram with Michael Bourne on Clearwater Award

    David Amram, one of the most open-eared and open-hearted musical artists in the world, came to WBGO for a talk with Michael Bourne.  He’s being honored with the “Power of Song” Award from the Clearwater Foundation at a stellar gathering Friday November 9 at Symphony Space in Manhattan.

    Pete Seeger, founder of Clearwater, will present the award and perform alongside other friends of David, including  Paquito D’Rivera, Henry Butler, Guy Davis, Josh White Jr, and young musicians premiering a new Amram composition.  Also premiering at the event will be the documentary film “David Amram: The First 80 Years."

  • Guitarist Lionel Loueke On New CD "Heritage"

    Guitarist and singer Lionel Loueke talks with WBGO's Tim Wilkins about his new Blue Note CD, Heritage, and his new band for the disc with pianist Robert Glasper, bassist Derrick Hodge and drummer Mark Giuliana. The group appears tonight at New York's Blue Note jazz club.

    Loueke also performed one on the tracks he wrote for the disc, "Ife," live in our studios, and discusses his inspirations for the composition.

  • WBGO Is Live At The Newport Jazz Festival 2012

    WBGO is back in Newport, with host Josh Jackson broadcasting live from the 2012 Jazz Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. This year's festival is packed to the gills with fresh-faced and veteran talent, so will be exciting.

    Our new sister HD2 station, The Jazz Bee, is also playing a special selection of recordings by the more than forty artists and groups who are performing at Newport this year.
