Maceo ParkerThe JB Horns - trombonist Fred Wesley, saxophonists Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis - anchored James Brown's funk machine in the 1970s, bringing their superb musicality to hits such as "Doing It to Death" and "Pass the Peas."
The musical influence of the JBs is felt in every corner of the globe. WBGO was honored to have these three living kings of funk visit our studios yesterday ahead of their reunion at New York's Town Hall this Thursday, October 6 at 8 p.m. The radio station was buzzing with excitement.
When Michael Bourne talked with the JBs, Fred Wesley says they "took great pride being the tightest band in the world, the hottest band in the world."
