Influencing a Generation
Friday, May 29
from 9-10am
Gary Walker will chat with Paquito D’Rivera about Benny Goodman,
only on Jazz 88.3FM and wbgo.org
Paquito D’Rivera’s childhood in Havana Cuba was quite animated. Of his most vivid memories was the day his father brought home “Benny Goodman at Carnegie Hall” to christen the family’s new record player. Since then, Paquito has developed into a world class clarinetist himself, and still influenced by “The King of Swing”. He’s even composed a classical suite with a movement titled “Benny at 100”!
