The Friends of WBGO/ Newark Public Radio. Inc.

The Friends is a group of enthusiastic members who raise funds and sponsor events to assist the station in serving as a cultural beacon that educates and entertains a wide local, national and international audience. Friends volunteer their time promoting new memberships, creating logo items and sponsoring jazz events. During WBGO's 25th anniversary year, Friends also sponsored two successful dance cruises and produced the WBGO calendar, Women in Jazz.

WBGO moves straight ahead as the "the country's greatest jazz radio station". Friends plans additional jazz related events, dance cruises and much more! WBGO has entrusted The Friends to help keep the station shining and the listeners smiling because, after all, that's what Friends are for.

Purpose: To support WBGO/Newark Public Radio, Inc.

MISSION STATEMENT:

To undertake projects on behalf of WBGO/Newark Public Radio, Inc ("the station") and support the station financially and in any way which The Friends ("the organization") determines appropriate.

Qualifications of the members of The Friends shall be set forth in the By-laws of the organization. Membership shall be open to anyone with an interest in supporting The Friends' mission.

To accomplish its mission, The Friends will assist the station in:

• Supporting its fund raising events
• Sponsoring and developing events that will supplement fund raising efforts of the station
• Informing the public of cultural and social events that support WBGO
• Striving for excellence in a professional, educational and appealing manner
• Sustaining and developing audience interest in programs of WBGO
